Warcraft Cataclysm – Latest WoW Info

It has been some time since the announcement of patch 4.0 and Cataclysm. We can now speculate on what the upcoming expansion will mean to most of us.

In a general overview, it would seem that the biggest difference we will see in Warcraft as we approach the Cataclysm update and patch 4.0 will be the speed at which levels and milestones within the game are achieved.

No longer will you need to learn basic weapon skills when starting the game. Most classes will now come with three if not four weapons pre skilled.

You will still start off with no proficiency points, but at least a Rogue can start with two daggers right from the get-go.

Not that you’ll be right at the start for long. Blizzard have hinted at double speed levelling for all. Though more recent postings have said this might just be a 50% increase.

For those that like to level up however, all is not lost. The level between 80 and level 85 are to the biggest and most expansive yet.

Apparently each is to be a major milestone. With achievements and unlocks being made at each one. How this will work in practice we will have to wait and see, but at least it seems to be a positive step.

It is too early to speculate on the detail, but it seems that both mana and health regeneration will be far quicker. Possible double the current speed. Rested status for characters will also be tweaked. You can currently have “rested” up to 1.5 levels ahead. It is likely that this will be upped to 2 (and some say 3) levels ahead.

Is it just me, or would this change the whole dynamic of levelling? Now I see it as a bonus to have double XP. The new system will reverse that and I will be loath to level with anything other than double XP.

This, most likely, was Blizzards intention all along.

Most of the news regarding Cataclysm points to an increase of end game importance. Yes even more end game importance. Expect favourite old instances to be re-jigged, and many new ones added. For those who like the grind, levels 80-85 will bring a much needed difference to the usual hack and slash.

Making Warcraft Gold and Power Leveling. Keep it Simple.

The premise of Warcraft “back in the day” was “grind mob, get XP, take loot, sell loot, level up – repeat”. So off you go. Hoping for a “Green” or “Blue” to drop to boost your hourly gold rate. Perhaps you have researched on the web, and know what “uncommon” items are possible in your area. Doing this you can have a good idea of your hourly XP and gold rate.

What other factors determine your gold and XP throughput? Are you aware of the factors that can seriously affect your performance? Are you, in fact, handicapping yourself by over-reaching?

Gold sinks such as repair and ammunition are ever present. Most classes rely on bandages, potions etc as well. At a low level repairing your items is a minimal expense. At level 80 getting a well bashed set of epic kit back to full health can cost 20 gold, or even more

But you are encouraged by the games mechanics to always push your character hard. Level fast, get to better areas, get more valuable loot. The risk is getting to level 10 and thinking;

“I’ll take on those level 11 and 12 mobs”.

So off you go, ten minutes and five kills later you’re dead.

The psychology of the game drives you to do this. It says “You want to be better; you need to advance quickly, test yourself”

But this was a mistake. Levelling against mobs that you can manage in groups of three or four is much better. These will generally be one or two levels below you

There is some simple math involved. Mobs up to 4 levels below you will yield almost 90% of the experience of a mob your level. The difference being you can easily take several lower level mobs and live, whereas more than one mob at a higher level than you is normally a real risk. Slightly lower level equates to more gold and experience per hour

Try and level against mobs between 1 and 4 levels below your own. More than 4 and the equation starts to work against you. So at level 60 consider levelling in areas where most mobs are 56-60. The fastest will be those at about 57 and 58

Don’t be concerned about missing higher level loot either. The loot might be slightly better, but this is more than countered by the fact that you will kill (and therefore loot) far fewer mobs at a higher level.

So as long as you don’t go more than 4 levels below your own, the equation is in your favour whichever way you look at it.

Try not to over-reach yourself. Ultimately levelling out of your comfort zone is slower and costlier. But of course every now and again we all want to show off.
